| The Memphis Comedy Festival was held in 2001 and 2002. It was a multi-day celebration of sketch comedy and improvisational comedy from across North America. Previously, it was produced by the Memphis improv troupe, Vertical Imbalance. It has been on sabbatical for the last couple of years, but may return in the future. | ||||
MCF 2001MCF 2001 was held on September 7-8, 2001 at the Historic Daisy Theatre on Beale Street. Vertical Imbalance hosted the first annual Memphis Comedy Festival as a benefit for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The two-day event featured short form improv, long form improv, musical improv, and sketch comedy troupes. Jeff Wirth provided a four hour workshop for everyone in attendance. The festival was featured in the Commercial Appeal, the Memphis Flyer, several local radio stations, the Cary (NC) Times and several well-known internet sites. Performing at the festival:
MCF 2002MCF 2002 was held September 5-8, 2002 at Bonkerz Comedy Club inside Bally's Casino in Tunica, MS. The festival featured the finest improvisational and sketch comedy troupes from North America. The festival featured over 100 performers in 31 total performances. It also featured workshops by Joe Bill, Bob Dassie, Charna Halpern, Shaun Landry, Mark Sutton, and Asaf Ronen. Performing at the festival:
